TransContainer says may order 10,000 containers in 2022
MOSCOW, Nov 18 (PRIME) -- Railway container operator TransContainer plans to order around 10,000 containers in 2022, including from Russian company RM Rail, TransContainer President Alexander Isurin told reporters on Thursday.
“We are yet to approve a budget for the following year, but under preliminary calculations, we plan to raise our operating rolling stock by 5,000–6,000 wagons and buy more than 10,000 containers. We have an agreement with RM Rail, under which we bought 1,500 Russian containers this year,” he said.
Between a Russian and a Chinese producer of 20-foot containers, the company will choose a Russian producer, but only Chinese producers make 40-foot containers. Production of containers in Russia is a promising direction, but there are two problems: the lack of capacities that leads to inefficiency of production, and the lack of subsidies. There are subsidies for the Chinese containers, he said.
The company also expects stabilization of the rent rates for railway wagons in 2022 after the increase that happened in 2021 due to high demand, he said.
